The Firefighters Museum of Calgary gallery spaces are currently under construction so we have amped up our offsite programs and outreach initiatives to better CONNECT with the community.

 

Art & Artefact

Call Box Birdhouses!

Want to do something fun, fire related and completely for the birds? Join us at our Museum Collections Location in Midnapore, take a tour of our old call boxes (some people call them fire alarm boxes) and then make your own birdhouse based on what you've learned! This is great activity for kids and bird lovers of all ages!

(this program is part of the museum's art & artefact initiative)

Saturday, May 9 from 10:00  to 11:30 am @ 271 Midpark Blvd SE. Admission by donation. Suggested donation is $10. Maximum 12 participants (all children must be accompanied by a guardian). NOTE: you must pre-register for this program.

Sketch Club

Join the museum at select locations throughout the community to get your sketch on! Times to be updated shortly. We promise!

May 22: Pastries & Pastels:  Join us for our premiere session of Sketch Club @ the Firefighters Museum of Calgary with special guest curator, writer, and artist Monique Westra. Explore a world of colours and shapes using select artefacts and the wonderful medium of pastels! Tea and pastries complement the experience. Space is extremely limited. Conversations in the Kitchen

This ongoing series provides a forum for dialogue, cultural connections and the continuation of a longstanding firefighting tradition – mealtimes! Among our featured speakers are museum professionals, historians and firefighters. All presentations / talks are followed by conversation in the kitchen complete with beverages and your presenter’s favourite recipe.

Museum on Call

Learn about the history of Calgary firefighting through artefacts and activities inspired by our collection.  Families can try on old and new firefighter uniforms, run relays (select venues only) and make a craft. Firecrackers

Programming for pre K to 4* available for offsite presentation. Cost recovery in effect.

Cappy’s Curators

This bookable activity is geared towards grades 5 to 7 and lets kids become curators of their own exhibits. We provide artifacts, replicas, photos, and documents and you provide the imagination. UNDER DEVELOPMENT

The museum is celebrating its 5 year anniversary down at Draft Horse Town complete with a photo booth, What Am I? artfefacts, and fast fire facts! We’ll be there until 8 pm each evening so come check us out.

July 29, 2015: Lives, Legacies and Legends of the Calgary Fire Brigade
Join us at the Union Cemetery as we honour James 'Cappy' Smart and remember Calgarians from the turn of the century, affected by the Calgary Fire Brigade.
